The purpose of these standards is to protect and enhance the quality and productivity of the Nation's interstate waters to serve a variety of beneficial uses, such as public water supply, recreation and protection of aquatic life, and industrial and agricultural uses. The report summarizes the standards for the general information of the public and Federal, state and local officials as to the uses and associated requirements for interstate waterways.
