Abstract
The principal objective of the report is to characterize State efforts to adopt numerical water quality criteria for the Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 307(a) pollutants. Such efforts are required by CWA Section 303(c)(2)(B), which was added as part of the CWA amendments of 1987. The information presented in the report is current as of February 4, 1990. The report updates and replaces the report 'State Numerical Water Quality Criteria for Toxics as of August, 1989.' In preparing the report, emphasis has been placed on: preparing a preliminary assessment of State compliance with the requirements of CWA Section 303(c)(2)(B), and characterizing the status of all criteria 'expected' to be adopted during the current review cycle.
