Abstract
Ninety percent of the present water use in Washington State is in agriculture. With large quantities of irrigable lands yet nonirrigated, agriculture represents a large potential claim on the existing water resources. If additional water is to be used for irrigated agriculture, it must be shown that Washington's agriculture will provide economic returns greater than alternative uses of water. The major objective of this study was to determine the effects of specific economic and physical phenomena on the value of irrigation water. Linear programming was selected as the method for estimating the value of water in this study. (Author)
