| Abstract |
The workshop's purpose was to better define the hydrogeologic mapping needs of States and other organizations responsible for the protection and management of ground-water resources, and to identify areas in which more consistency in map content and design would be useful. Approximately 50 participants addressed mapping objectives and priorities, and discussed mapping attributes, scale, display and dissemination. Major results included definition of the types of information that are most needed, such as aquifer-system definition, and specific map attributes that are required such as transmissivity. Other identified needs included larger scale maps, consistency in the scales used and data format, and leadership by Federal, State, and professional organizations. Advantages and disadvantages of geogrpahic information systems were identified. |
