Abstract
The condition of our Nation's ground water resources is monitored and assessed under Section 106(e) of the Clean Water Act (CWA), which requests that each State monitor ground water quality and report the findings to Congress in their biennial 305(b) State Water Quality Reports. Ground water quality data, reported by States under the CWA, are compiled and maintained in a data base. The purpose of developing and maintaining these data is to develop an accurate representation of our Nation's ground water quality. The question has been raised whether the 305(b) of the CWA and assesses its appropriateness to support a ground water indicator under the IWI Initiative.
