Abstract
The compilation of water quality data collected during the 27-month period of intensive study (July 1960 through September 1962) of the Arkansas-Red River Basins Water Quality Conservation Project is presented in five parts. These data were gathered to provide a basis for (1) location and definition of the significant natural and manmade sources of slat (mineral) pollution, and (2) determination of the effects of these sources on the quality of water in the receiving streams. The intensive investigation of water quality and natural sources of mineral pollution was limited to the central portions of both basins, the area in which major salt sources exist, and mineral pollution is most severe. Stream quality monitoring consisted of continuous specific conductance recording combined with continuous flow measurement. Weekly grab samples were collected and analyzed to provide a basis for correlation of specific conductance with dissolved solids, chlorides, and sulfate concentration. In addition, samples were collected for trace elements and radioactivity analyses. (Author Modified Abstract)
