The examination of the one hundred and seven mile stretch of the Mississippi River extending from the junction with the Rum River above the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Area downstream to the outlet of the interstate waters of Lake Pepin leads to two major conclusions: Despite the efforts of the water pollution control and construction of waste treatment facilities the effects of pollution on this stretch of water are so great as to require remedial action; certain basic problems require further study. All present important sources of wastes to a projection of the impact of future discharges upon the water resources of this area.
