Abstract
During the past two years two new Methods have been approved for nationwide use for detection and measurement of the four regulated trihalomethanes (THMs) in drinking water. This increases to four the number of available methods for compliance monitoring of THMs. Two of those methods (numbers 501.1 and 501.2) were published in the Federal Register in 1979 and are, therefore, well known to drinking water analysts. The purpose of this paper is to discuss monitoring with the two new methods (numbers 501.3 and 524) and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
