Abstract
The handbook provides in-depth guidance on the use of slurry walls for the control of subsurface pollutants. It describes how these barriers can be employed for waste site remediation and presents the theory of their function and use. The handbook describes the essential elements of slurry wall feasibility, design, and construction. It also presents information on site investigation, associated remedial measures, maintenance and monitoring, and major cost elements. The handbook concludes with a series of evaluation criteria that correspond to the stages of a slurry wall installation. A Glossary of commonly used terms is also included. The handbook provides governmental and industrial technical personnel with the means of evaluating essential aspects of the application of this technique to the clean-up of uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. In conjunction with other publications in this series, it will assist in meeting the national goal of a cleaner, safer environment.
