Abstract
The paper gives results of a laboratory-scale study of the use of misting systems to provide total-flood fire protection with lower vapor pressure halocarbons. Five chemicals were investigated: 2,2-dichloro-1,1,1-trifluoroethane, CHC12CF3(HCFC-123); perfluorohexane, C6F14; perfluorodimethylcyclohexane, C6F11CF3; perfluorodimethylcyclohexane, C6F10(CF3)2; and perfluoromethyldecalin, C10F17CF3. Testing was conducted in a 175-liter enclosed test chamber that has been used in the past to test Halon 1301 replacement candidates; however, it had not been used before to examine misting systems.
