Abstract
The simulation model for estimating ground level concentrations of photochemical pollutants is based on the equations of continuity for a turbulent fluid in which chemical reactions occur. A variant of the method of fractional steps is based on the repeated but separate solution of three two-dimensional problems--in (x,t), (y,t), and (z, t) space--at each time step. Experience indicates that the procedure (with second or fourth-order approximation included) is stable and poses no particular computational difficulties. The basis for the selection of the numerical technique adopted is discussed. A detailed exposition of the method is given. The discussion is concluded with an evaluation of the procedure and a summary of experience with its use.
