Abstract
Genotoxicity of triethanolamine was evaluated in the rat hepatocyte primary culture/DNA repair assay. The compound was tested at concentrations of 1x10E-8, 1x10E-7, 1x10E-6, 1x10E-5, 1x10E-4, 1x10E-3, 1x10E-2, and 1x10E-1 M in Williams Medium E. The negative control group was cell cultures exposed to the medium only. The positive control groups were cell cultures exposed to the medium plus 2-acetylaminofluorene or 9,10-dimethyl-1,2-benzanthracene (1x10E-6, 1x10E-5, and 1x10E-4 M), in 1% DMSO. The treatment was cytotoxic to cell cultures at 1x10E-1 M. The treatment had no effect on the rate of DNA repair, indicating a lack of genotoxicity of triethanolamine in this cell culture assay.
