Abstract
The report presents a brief review of the hydrography of the Pamlico River and Estuary in North Carolina. Phodamine B dye was released and used as a tracer. The movement and concentration of the dye was followed. This movement was compared to predicted water movements derived from a tidal prism model of estuarine flushing. A theoretical model was used to estimate flushing under average waterflow conditions. Under these conditions corrections for vertical stratification were possible and substantial errors in the estimation for fresh water inflow were obviated. Independent water current determination did fit the model results.
