Abstract
This report describes tests performed on the electrostatic precipitator installed on the copper reverberatory furnace at the Kennecott Copper Corporation smelter at Hayden, Arizona. These tests provided data on the chemical characterization of particulates, noncondensables, and gases in addition to operating and performance measurements of electrical parameters, particle size, voltage-current distribution, and resistivity. Efforts were also made to develop computer simulations of ESP performance and to evaluate overall performance of the control device. The operation of the ESP was erratic, and other unavoidable restraints on the sampling program prevented acquisition of reliable data to evaluate representative performance of the ESP. Nevertheless, analysis of the data shows the types of information which can be obtained in evaluation of control devices if the test locations can be used to obtain data representative of normal 'on stream' operations.
