Abstract
The Environmental Protection Agency is proposing health and environmental protection standards for control of uranium and thorium tailings during ore processing operations and for final disposal. These standards would apply to tailings licensed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the States under Title II of the Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act of 1978 (Public Law 95-604). This Draft Environmental Impact Statement examines health, environmental, technical, and cost considerations and other factors important to developing the proposed standards.
