Abstract
The report gives results of a review of the U.S. Bureau of Mines' Synthane Coal Gasification Process from the standpoint of its potential for affecting the environment. Where possible, it estimates the quantities of solid, liquid, and gaseous effluents, as well as the thermal efficiency of the process. It proposes a number of possible process modifications or alternates, and points out new technology needs.
