Abstract |
The concentration of mercury has been determined in fish collected for a nation-wide survey of bioaccumulable chemical contaminants. Samples were prepared using standard digestion procedures and analyzed by flameless atomic absorption. Over 660 samples were analyzed from 374 sites representing 10 site classifications. The national mean value for all samples (ND=0) was 0.26 microgram/g. The mean value for fish collected below Public Treatment Works was the highest at 0.59 microgram/g. More than 90% of all sites contained fish with detectable mercury concentrations. |
