Abstract
This report presents testing results which were gathered to investigate the suitability of using the INCOLL procedure as an emissions inspection and maintenance (I/M) testing procedure compared to existing I/M testing procedures. The INCOLL procedure utilizes engine and transmission inertial forces to produce pressures and temperatures in the engine that will generate significant quantities of exhaust emissions. The existing I/M test procedures utilize steady state engine operating modes to produce significant quantities of exhaust emissions. The test sequency consisted of FTP, INCOLL, LA-4 and I/M cycles. The test sequence was applied to six vehicles in various states of tune.
