Abstract
The manual surveys current practice in the removal of suspended solids in both traditional and advanced treatment of municipal wastewater. Specific processes are described, design considerations are discussed and results are illustrated by data from actual installations. Included are processes such as sedimentation, straining and granular media filtration which affect physical separation of solids as well as coagulation and flocculation processes which alter solids characteristics to facilitate such separation. Detailed information is also provided concerning handling and application of coagulant chemicals.
