Abstract
This decision document presents the selected remedial action for the Scrap Processing Site in Medford, Wisconsin, The purpose of this remedy is to eliminate or reduce migration of contaminants to the groundwater and to reduce risks associated with exposure to the contaminated soils. The major components of the selected remedy include: excavation of lead-contaminated soils; off-site disposal of excavated soils at a solid waste landfill; use of institutional controls (such as fencing and groundwater and land use restrictions) on site property to limit land and groundwater use; installation of additional groundwater monitoring wells in the source area next to the battery cracking building; and monitorinig of groundwater to ensure effectiveness of the remdial action (soil removal) and determine if there is need for future active groundwater remediation.
