Abstract
This Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL), developed under section 303(d) of the Federal Clean Water Act (CWA), addresses the nonpoint source loading of fecal coliform bacteria during the summer into Jewel Lake. Jewel Lake is one of a series of lakes scattered throughout the Anchorage bowl that exceeds water quality standards for fecal coliform bacteria. Designated beneficial uses for Jewel Lake include: (1) water supply (2) water recreation, and (3) growth and propagation of fish, shellfish, and other aquatic life. The affected designated use is water supply. Existing data shows that the water supply standard for fecal colifom is exceeded from June through September.
