What is a green home, how much will it cost, what are the typical barriers to building one, and what can you do about them? Bob Thompson of NRMRL has a long history in the green building movement, and is in the process of building a new home that he expects to receive the highest ratings from LEED and the National Association of Home Builders, as well as EPA's Indoor Air Plus, Energy Star, and Water Sense certifications. In the first of three presentations, Bob will highlight the solutions and trade-offs that have occurred to date in the zoning, design, and financing phases. He also will discuss such exciting and innovative features as home automation, rainwater harvesting with a 4000 gallon cistern, rooftop gardening on a starlight deck, and a separable space for the potential of extended family. In the subsequent sessions, to be scheduled midway and at the completion of construction, he will discuss his experiences and valuable lessons learned.
