Abstract
Proponents of sustainable agriculture must recognize that the precollege school system (K-12) is an essential place to begin disseminating information that will allow individuals to understand the implications of different agricultural practice in terms of their own health, the health of their environment, and the maintenance of their food supply. Science education in the United States is undergoing reform, providing an excellent opportunity to use sustainable agriculture as a theme in teaching science. Efforts are underway to make science more relevant to real world situations through the establishment of partnerships between subject matter experts and educators. Scientists, farmers, and teachers can form alliances that will enhance student's knowledge of both sustainable agriculture and science.
