Abstract
CHA was contracted by Lockheed Martin to perform site assessments of selected coal combustion surface impoundments (Project 0-381 Coal Combustion Surface Impoundments/Dam Safety Inspections). As part of this contract, CHA was assigned to perform a site assessment of Progress Energys Cape Fear Plant, which is located in Moncure (Chatham County), North Carolina as shown on Figure 1 Project Location Map. Progress Energy formerly operated as Carolina Power and Light Company. CHA made a site visit on June 15 through June 17, 2009 to inventory coal combustion surface impoundments at the facility, to perform visual observations of the containment dikes, and to collect relevant information regarding the site assessment.
