Abstract
The South Valley/SJ-6 site is located on the southern margin of Albuquerque, New Mexico, just north of South Valley. Currently, petroleum fuels and various chlorinated organics are stored, handled and used within the South Valley areas. Ground water contamination was first suspected in 1978 when foul tastes and odors were noted in ground water from a private well on the Edmunds property in South Valley. Subsequent sampling revealed the presence of several VOCs in three municipal wells including SJ-6. The remedial action addresses only the source and extent of ground water contamination in the vicinity of SJ-6. Principle threats at the site (i.e., the source and emanating plumes of contamination from surrounding areas) are being addressed through remedial actions initiated by EPA in separate RODs. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the ground water are VOCs including 1,1-DCE, PCE and TCE. The selected remedial action for the site is included.
