| Abstract |
Section 117(e) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA), as amended, states that technical assistance grants can be made to 'any group of individuals which may be affected by a release or threatened release at any facility which is listed on the National Priorities List (NPL)' Affected groups eligible for technical assistance grants are those that can demonstrate, among other things, that their members face actual or potential health, economic, or environmental threats arising from a release or threatened release at a facility listed on the NPL or proposed for listing where a response action is underway. CERCLA, as amended, authorizes a maximum technical assistance grant of up to $50,000 per site for the duration of site response activities. Citizens' groups are required to provide matching funds. Only one grant may be awarded for any eligible NPL site. If more than one group intends to apply for the available grant at a site, the groups should be encouraged to consolidate and submit one application. Grants will be used for the purpose of obtaining technical assistance to interpret information related to Superfund response activities at a site. |
