Abstract
Cumene (CAS No. 98-82-8) was evaluated for subchronic toxicity. The test substance was administered by inhalation to rats (15/sex/group) 6 hours/day, 5 days/week for 13 weeks at concentrations of 0, 50, 100, 500, and 1,200 ppm. No mortalities were observed, and there were no exposure-related cataract formations, neurotoxic responses, body weight changes, or gross pathologic findings. All treated females and the males of the 2 highest exposure groups had swollen periocular tissue. Absolute and relative liver weights were increased in both sexes at 1,200 ppm and in females at 500 ppm. There was an increase in the absolute and relative lung and adrenal gland weights in females of the 1,200 ppm group.
