Abstract
At the conference concerning interstate pollution of the Coosa River and its tributaries held on August 27, 1963, it was determined that untreated and inadequately treated sewage and industrial wastes discharged to the Coosa River. These waste discharges lowered the dissolved oxygen content of parts of this reach. Higher temperature increased the rate of oxygen utilization by bacteria in decomposing organic material thereby causing a more rapid depletion of oxygen in the receiving waters. The report gives data on these effects.
