Abstract
Ninety-eight environmental samples consisting of fish, sediment, soils, and vegetation, were analyzed by gas chromatographic/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) techniques for hexa-, hepta-, octa-, nona-, and decabromobiphenyls. The samples were collected by EPA regional office personnel. Hexabromobiphenyl was the most prevalent species detected. This species was detected in 84 percent of the samples over the range of 0.2 to 50,000 ppb. Heptabromobiphenyl was detected in 12 percent of the samples and octabromobiphenyl in 2 percent of the samples. Nonabromobiphenyl and decabromobiphenyl were not detected.
