Abstract
The manual is an introduction to the procedures which are used to evaluate the toxicity of chemical substances to aquatic life. Such toxicity data are presently used to determine permissible effluent discharge rates into the aquatic environment and in monitoring levels of contaminants in streams with respect to water quality standards. The manual discusses such topics as: general procedures and methods of toxicity testing, test conditions and protocol, calculations and reporting, interpretation of toxicity test data, and lab procedures for running screening tests, 96 hour LC 50 determinations, and toxicity threshold evaluations.
