| Abstract |
Section 405(d) of the Clean Water Act requires the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to promulgate regulations, including numerical limitations for pollutants that may be present in sewage sludge, to protect public health and the enviroinment from any reasonably anticipated adverse effects of the pollutants. In November 1992, EPA promulgated numerical limits for ten pollutants in sewage sludge. EPA is now required to make a determination as to whether it is necessary to propose and promulgate a regulation covering a second set of pollutants that may cause adverse effects to public health or the environment (Round Two). The purpose of this Technical Support Document is to provide information on how both the cadidate list and the final list of pollutants for the Round Two sewage sludge regulation were derived. |
