Abstract
The South Valley/Edmunds Street site is a large area in Albuquerque, New Mexico, surrounding the municipal water well known as San Jose 6. Within this large area are a number of industrial properties owned and operated by different groups and individuals. Analyses of the area have shown significant levels of industrial solvents in the soil, and a plume of contaminated ground water starting at the drainage pit area and extending to the east. The contaminated group water currently poses a direct threat to Albuqerque's water supply by moving toward the city's well fields. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the ground water include VOCs such as PCE and TCE. The selected remedial action for the site includes: ground water pump and treatment using air stripping (packed tower aeration) with reinjection of the treated water into the aquifer through infiltration galleries; and ground water and air monitoring.
