Abstract |
Natural wetlands of the Piedmont of the Carolinas and Georgia are found largely in river bottoms, with bottomland hardwood forest the dominant ecosystem type in these areas. This report outlines many of the issues that must be dealt with when identifying reference wetlands in the southern Piedmont. In the development of reference wetland concepts, we rely heavily on principles developed for the on bottomland hardwood forests and the handful of efforts elsewhere on characterizing the structure and function of wetlands within a reference framework. |
