Abstract
The purposes of this study were to determine the degree of general concern regarding the presence of boron in industrial waste streams and municipal sewage systems and to ascertain if any industries or cities are currently engaged in the removal of boron from their wastewater. For those methods currently practiced, the specific method of removal, effectiveness, and cost estimates were determined. The current literature was surveyed for other methods of boron removal that may have merit for future application in this area. Efficiency of boron removal and cost estimates were presented for several of the possible methods. A survey of the literature was also conducted to determine the effect of boron on microorganisms present in municipal waste treatment systems.
