Abstract
The FATE Model has been developed for predicting the fate of organics in a completely mixed activated sludge treatment plant operated under acclimated conditions. It has been validated using experimental data from a pilot-scale facility and full-scale treatment plants. The biogradation kinetic constants for some compounds were estimated using group contribution approach. Applications of the model include (1) assessment of emissions of volatile organic compounds from wastewater treatment plants, (2) estimation of the concentration of toxic compounds associated with sludges, and (3) a general framework for estimating the removal of toxic compounds during conventional primary/activated sludge treatment.
