Abstract
The report discusses the development of a water-soluble glass container which has high potential for reducing the container solid waste problem. The report is divided into three parts. In the first a method of coating water soluble silicate glasses with oxide films by chemical vapor depositon was studied. Coatings of silica, titania, and other oxides were readily obtained by pyrolytic decomposition of organic ester vapors. The coating techniques are described. In the next section, a method for mechanically testing sodium silicate glass by the bending test is presented. Finally, the reate of reaction of soluble silicate glasses with aqueous solutions was studied. The apparati used in studying the rate of reaction is described.
