Abstract | The interim results reported on the study by Dr. J. Oehlmann (Zittau International University Institute) indicate effects in the limnal giant ramshorn snail Marisa cornuarietis and the marine Atlantic dogwinkle Nucella lapillus as low as I pg/1 BPA. The effects observed in females include enlargement of the sex glands, an increase in the production of eggs and spawning mass, and in some cases, additional female genital organs. In male animals, observations were a reduction in the size of the genital organs and a decline in the proportion of males ready to copulate. |
