Abstract
This is a summary report of a four-year field study of the techniques and environmental effects of applying liquid digested municipal sludge at various rates to sandy coastal plains soils in a humid temperature climate. Some of the most important observations and measurements were effects on groundwater movement and quality, crop quality and yields, air quality, soil properties, and wildlife. Recommendations for safe beneficial sludge use under conditions of the study are presented. The report should be valuable to planners and designers of sludge disposal facilities and to managers of land application sites in humid temperate areas.
