Abstract
This document provides guidelines for carrying out environmental impact assessments (EIA) when siting industrial projects. These guidelines provide a framework within which an EIA can be structured and undertaken to suit prevailing conditions. The guidance document begins by describing the procedures and methodologies of EIAs. This is followed by assessments of pollution and ecological effects and socioeconomic effects. This document was published under the auspice of the United Nations and is intended to provide assistance to developing industry in any country.
