Abstract
This edition is a five-year strategy document which describes how the EPA research program plans to address major issues. Each chapter relates to the research applicable to a segment of the Agency's regulatory program. Within each chapter, an introduction defines the area of concern, a section on legislated responsibilities indicates the laws which engender the research program and the body discusses major gaps in scientific and technical knowledge and how they are to be filled to assure a cost-effective regulatory program. The chapters also present selected milestones which indicate the timing of important segments of the research program and resource options for conditions of high, moderate and no growth. These growth scenarios are intended to indicate potential program increases in the Agency's research and development. The chapters in the report are: Energy, Hazardous Air Pollutants, Gases and Particles, Oxidants, Mobile Sources, Pesticides, Radiation, Toxic Chemical Testing and Assessment, Hazardous Wastes, Superfund, Drinking Water, Water Quality, Industrial Wastewater, Municipal Wastewater.
