Abstract
Laboratory studies of self-sealing limestone plugs for mine openings were conducted to determine the optimum limestone material for such a treatment and sealant technique. Experimental results indicated that permeability, compressibility and strength of a limestone plug are primarily a function of the particle size distribution and density. Plug performance was most effective with high limestone placement density and smaller gradation of stone. Ferric waters were controlled most effectively. Additive effects were less significant throughout the tests. (Modified author abstract)
