Abstract
The guidance contained in the document is based largely on research conducted in 1987 and 1988 in schools located in Maryland and Virginia. Because school design, construction and operation patterns vary considerably, it is not always possible to recommend 'standard' corrective actions that apply to all schools. Therefore, the document covers background information on radon and radon mitigation experience, important school building characteristics relative to radon entry and mitigation, problem analysis, radon diagnostic testing, and radon mitigation system design and installation.
