The southern bay scallop, Argopecten irradians concentricus, is one of the only non-finfish species to support a large, although rapidly declining, recreational interest in the State of Florida. Bay scallops, which require good water quality, had all but disappeared from Tampa Bay by 1963. Recent studies have indicated that sections of Tampa Bay may once again be capable of supporting viable bay scallop populations. These scallops were seeded to several areas of the bay and also placed at various locations in the bay in cages. The purpose of this project was to continue to attempt to increase the population of the southern bay scallop in Tampa Bay by providing spawning stocks to various locations throughout the eastern portion of the bay.
