Abstract

As part of a three-month assignment in Brazil the writer was requested to make a study of the algae in the sources of the public water supplies of the Sao Paulo area. Advice was also desired on the possible significance of any potentially toxic algae. Finally, recommendations were requested concerning methods of preventing and controlling problems caused by algae.
