Abstract
The behavior of hazardous organic liquids that enter the subsurface environment depends on certain properties of the liquid and of the subsurface media. One of the important properties is the capillary pressure-saturation curve which relates the capillary pressure in the sample to the amount of the pore space filled by the liquid. The report describes a new technique for measuring the capillary pressure-saturation curve, and presents an extensive series of measured curves for a sand and a sandy clay loam soil. For coarse materials, the new technique presents a more accurate and precise method for determining the curve. The capability will help to assure that accurate data can be obtained for analysis and remediation of organic liquid contaminants.
