Abstract
The 71-acre Portland Cement (Kiln Dust No. 2 & No. 3) site, located in a primarily industrial/commercial area of Salt Lake City, Utah, consists of three separate but adjacent properties known as Site 2, Site 3, and the West Site. Between 1959 and 1983, the Portland Cement Company, which was purchased by Lone Star Industries in 1979, deposited approximately 495,000 cubic yards of waste cement kiln dust (CKD) on each of the three properties comprising the site. The ROD addresses the onsite contaminated soil and chrome-bearing bricks that provide a potential source of ground water contamination onsite. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the soil and waste CKD are metals, including arsenic, chromium, and lead.
