Bryn Evans was the presenter for the March River Talk at the Vikre Distillery in Duluth. Evans talks about her current two year project, which was designed to estimate the number of mammals in the St. Louis River and Nemadji River estuaries, to see if populations are responding favorably to restoration efforts. Setting 66 trail cameras downstream of the Fond du Lac Dam along the St. Louis River and the Nemadji River, she set out to capture images and information on four species chosen for their specialized roles in the environment: mink, otter, beaver, and muskrat. As a reference, she also set cameras at Boulder Lake Reservoir north of Duluth and in the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway along the Minnesota-Wisconsin border near Danbury, Wisconsin. Besides her four target species, her cameras captured a variety of wildlife, including bobcats, deer, wolves, bears, porcupines, and many others. During her talk, Evans showed captivating images, including one of a juvenile wolf playing with a beer can. She said the results of her project so far indicate " the St. Louis River is doing well when compared to the St. Croix River."
