Abstract |
The manual gives an integrated multimedia assessment of control/disposal options, emissions, and environmental requirements associated with a hypothetical 50,000 bbl/day Solvent Refined Coal (SRC) facility producing gaseous and liquid fuels. It gives an overall outline of the basic system, including module descriptions and summaries on pollution control practices and costs. It also gives a survey of currently available and developing control/disposal practices that may be applicable to waste streams from coal liquefaction technologies. In the detailed definition of the basic system, it describes modules in detail, and quantifies input and output streams. It specifies applicable control/disposal practices in accordance with waste stream characteristics and pertinent environmental requirements. For each treatment option, it gives capital and operating costs, along with estimated post-treatment emissions. Subsequently, it compares levels of specific pollutants in quantified waste streams to Multimedia Environmental Goals (MEG's) developed by EPA's IERL-RTP. Finally, it discusses emission variations in solid and liquid SRC production. |
