The Amnicola Dump site is an 18-acre inactive construction debris disposal site located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The only industrial waste reportedly disposed of at the site was latex waste. Unauthorized waste dumping and concerns about leachate discharge in proximity to the drinking water intake area led to closure of the site in 1973. The current owner and operator has been burning, storing, and handling creosoted railroad ties, contributing to elevated PAHs in surface soil. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the soil, debris, and ground water are organics including PAHs, and metals including chromium. The selected remedial action for the site includes excavating and screening 600 cu yd of contaminated soil/debris with onsite solidification/fixation of 400 cu yd of contaminated soil and 200 cu yd of debris (debris exceeding cleanup goals or LDR Requirements will be disposed of offsite), followed by onsite disposal of solidified mass; monitoring of ground water for 4 years; conducting a public health assessment 5 years after completion of the remedial action; and implementation of institutional controls including ground water and land use restrictions.
