Abstract
An analysis of the economic impact of proposed water effluent guidelines upon the textile industry (SIC 221 to 224) was performed based on abatement technology as described in EPA-440/1-74-0222. Development Document for Effluent Guidelines and New Source Performance Standards of the Textile Mills Point Source Category, June 1974, and aimed at estimating mill closings rather than total industry costs. The impact was evaluated for implementation of best practicable control technology and best available control technology. Connection to municipal systems creates minimum impact. Self-treatment under best practicable treatment and best available treatment (BAT) also produces minimal impact in terms of mill closings.
